Believe me I know what it's like to feel like you're carrying the world in your head. Yeah it feels like you're always wearing a crown, but not of gold, instead a full load of annoying flakes that are not just itchy but also disgusting!
So my new mission is: kicking dandruff 's ass for good.
Dandruff (a.k.a Pityriasis capitis) is caused by the skin of the scalp shedding its dead cells at a faster rate than normal. Therefore, this is a sign that your scalp is not healthy. Dietary causes include eating too much junk food, lack of vitamins and polyunsaturated oils, and zinc deficiency.
Here are some tips to finally get rid of these irritating flakes:
1. Eat plenty of zinc-rich foods such as oysters/clams/"tahong", brown rice, wheat bread, nuts & seeds, dark green vegetables, and dried fruit.
2. Avoid eating excessive junk foods.
3. Avoid harsh shampoos (try using CLEAR, I've tried it and I think it's working 'dandruff never comes back' hehehe).
4. Rinse shampoo off your hair completely.
5. According to wikipedia, anti-fungal/anti-dandruff shampoos containing ketoconazole have been shown to be more effective than zinc pyrithione (Head & Shoulders, Clear, Pantene etc.). Ketoconazole is the most effective antifungal agent concluded by multiple studies.
Sometimes, a flaky scalp signals an underlying disorder. If you've followed the tips above and the problem still persist, you need to consult your physician.
